Keeping Counseling Human in an Age of Artificial Intelligence
The future of counseling will almost certainly include more technology. Artificial intelligence will continue to improve, offering counselors new ways to organize information, access research, and develop educational materials. These advancements can be helpful but they will never replace what truly heals people.
Individuals recovering from pornography addiction often need someone who believes change is possible even when they struggle to believe it themselves. Betrayed partners need someone who can sit with their grief without trying to rush it. Couples rebuilding trust need a guide who can recognize fear, shame, hope, and courage in real time.
Artificial intelligence cannot offer genuine compassion. It cannot pray with someone wrestling through emotional brokenness. It cannot recognize the subtle shifts in body language that communicate safety or fear. It cannot celebrate the quiet victories that often mark lasting recovery.
As a Christian counselor, I believe every person bears the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. Technology can be useful, but people are never problems to solve, they are stories to understand.
Whether you are working through pornography addiction, navigating betrayal trauma, or seeking healing within your marriage, my commitment remains the same. I will continue to integrate evidence-based practices, ethical standards, and appropriate technology in ways that support, not replace, the sacred work of counseling.
If you ever have questions about how technology is used in your care, please ask. Your comfort, trust, and informed participation are essential parts of the counseling process.
Healing has always been, and will always remain, a deeply human journey. AI may assist the work, but hope, connection, grace, and restoration come through authentic relationships.
