Your Rights as a Client When AI Is Used
One of the most important ethical principles in counseling is informed consent. Simply put, you deserve to know how your care is being provided and to have a voice in those decisions.
If AI is ever used to support your counseling experience, you should understand what it is being used for, why it is being used, and how it benefits your treatment. Transparency, again, is essential.
At Restoration Road Counseling, AI would never replace therapy sessions or make treatment decisions. Instead, it may occasionally assist with creating educational resources, organizing information, developing homework assignments, or improving documentation. Even these things will all be done under the direct supervision of your counselor.
Protecting your confidentiality remains a top priority. Whenever technology is used, every effort is made to safeguard your privacy by limiting identifying information, following professional ethical standards, and using secure systems whenever appropriate.
You also retain the right to ask questions at any point during treatment. If something feels unclear, uncomfortable, or inconsistent with your values, we want to know. Counseling works best when collaboration and trust are present.
Perhaps most importantly, you have choices. If you prefer that AI not be involved in creating educational materials or supporting aspects of your care, you may discuss alternative approaches with your counselor. Declining AI supported resources will never affect the quality of care you receive or the respect you deserve.
Your voice matters. Ethical counseling is built upon partnership, not technology.
